Both sit on the same data model, under the same security rules, and you change both the same way, through a Plan. What comes out of the box covers the work every business does. What is built for you covers the work only yours does.
Define the system. Run the system. Repeat. Business Evolution is the design-time loop that defines how the business works. Business Operations is the run-time loop where the work actually gets done. You don’t live in the first; you live in the second.
Two seams couple the loops. Hand off — when a system goes live, it becomes something agents can run, and Business Operations picks it up. Structural tune — when the day-to-day turns up something the system was never built to do, the change is too big for runtime and escalates back up into a new turn of Business Evolution.
This is the part of p6k we have thought about the hardest. The seam between building a system and running it is where most platforms quietly fall apart — the design drifts from the day-to-day, and the people who run the work lose the ability to change it. We have spent more time on this single idea than on anything else in the product, because getting it right is most of the work.
